Rose Lee and Melanie Johnson both started their childcare profession in 1993 and continued to work in professional childcare roles. After 17 years working in various childcare roles, they opened Melrose Nursery School in September 2008. From this success they have gone on to open Melrose On The Hill in September 2012 and Mini Melrose in November 2017.
We have a great reputation with parents and our reviews speak for themselves.
‘Equipped with high quality resources’ and ‘very supportive to learning’ – Ofsted report.
We offer several types of Government funding to make childcare more affordable.
Rose and Melanie believe in creating a warm, welcoming environment where everybody who enters the nursery feels valued and part of the setting.
Through building strong relationships with each family that joins the setting and by ensuring each practitioner who joins a Melrose team is passionate about proving high quality childcare, the Melrose standard is maintained.
Founded in 2008, the nursery is in the new purpose-built nursery, St Gabriel’s Hall.
The nursery benefits from a spacious learning environment incorporating two children’s classrooms, the conservatory art room, an upstairs dedicated sleep room with wooden beds away from the noise of downstairs, and an engaging and exciting hidden enclosed garden which children can always access.
The nursery has the highest quality of equipment and furniture.
Located opposite the nursery in a beautiful, restored home environment and staffed by a team of passionate, experienced, and qualified practitioners, Mini Melrose is the ideal option for local families wanting the very best in care for their little ones.
The house has four separate inviting rooms where children move between rooms throughout the day rather than being restricted in one baby room.
Each nurturing room is equipped with the highest quality of furniture, toys and resources to help your child develop all the skills they need to transition over to Melrose Nursery School at the age of two years. All children registered at Mini Melrose will automatically have a reserved place at Melrose Nursery from 24 months old.
Both Melrose Nursery school and Mini Melrose have been awarded a Millies Mark Accreditation. We are very safety aware and have daily risk assessments to reduce the risk of accidents, however children do have accidents as they develop and explore.
All staff hold paediatric first aid certificates and renew their training every three years. The team are trained to use a Lifevac device and a defibrillator, a defibrillator is in the main nursery.
Nursery policies can be found in both Melrose Nursery and Mini Melrose. You may request a copy of these at any time.
A full list of the policies available can be found on our policies page here.
The nursery has an in-depth safeguarding policy available for parents to view. We have named persons within the nursery who take lead responsibility for safeguarding and co-ordinate child protection and welfare issues, known as the Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL), there is always at least one designated person on duty during the opening hours of the Nursery.
The DSL’s undertakes Advanced Safeguarding and Designated Safeguarding Lead (Level 3) training, and all Nursery Practitioners hold a Safeguarding Children (Level 2). The Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) at the nursery are the Directors and the Management team.
To safeguard children in our care we comply with the Local Safeguarding Children Partnership (LSCP) safeguarding and child protection procedures, and make sure that all adults working with, and looking after children are able to put the procedures into practice.
We have a duty under section 40 Children Act 2006 to comply with the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage (EYFS) 2021.
The statutory guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children (HMGov) 2018, defines safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children as:
Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy sets out how we do this.
